Sofja Umarik is an Estonian animation director and illustrator currently based in Argentina. She graduated Animation BA from Middlesex University under the guidance of the BAFTA winning director Jonathan Hodgson.

After graduating she worked for a London based studio Scriberia and freelanced for Cartoon Network. She also worked in Spain for the GOYA winning animation feature Buñuel in the Labyrinth of the Turtles. Sofja has since worked as an independent animation director, collaborating with clients all over the world.

Her film for the BBC Ideas The Quiet Power on Introverts touched millions of people. She has since become an advocate for mental health and self development, putting emphasis on creating films with a positive impact. 

She has worked with Passion Pictures for ITV creating awareness around racism by telling the story of a young Soriah.

Sofja has collaborated with various production studios. Her work can be seen in videos for Foster The People, on the big stages for Akram Khan’s play The Jungle Book and so much more.

Umarik also illustrates event posters, album covers and children's books.

Her personal projects include a colouring book The Mother Earth, an original 42 card oracle deck Hääl and multiple comics focused on raising awareness around mental health.
