Sofja Ümarik is an Estonian animation director and illustrator. She graduated Animation BA from Middlesex University under the guidance of the BAFTA winning director Jonathan Hodgson.

After graduating she worked for a London based studio Scriberia and freelanced for Cartoon Network. She also worked in Spain for the GOYA winning animation feature Buñuel in the Labyrinth of the Turtles. Sofja has since worked as an independent animation director, collaborating with clients all over the world.

Her film for the BBC Ideas The Quiet Power on Introverts touched millions of people. 

Sofja has collaborated with various production studios. Her work can be seen in a music video for Foster The People, on the big stages for Akram Khan’s play The Jungle Book and so much more. She has also worked with Passion Pictures for ITV telling the story of a young girl Soriah.

Sofja also illustrates event posters, album covers and her current passion is in children's books.

Her personal projects include a colouring book The Mother Earth, an original 42 card oracle deck Hääl.
